Maxisew Data Ezi Spotlight on Overlocker blade maintenance
When using overlockers or Sergers keep in mind that blunt or damaged blades are the main cause of other damage or repairs.
The first sign that the blades are blunt is the machine will start missing stitches due to the following reasons.
(1) The needle is in the material when the blade cuts, if the blade is blunt the fabric will be pushed forward and this will pull the needle forward away from the looper creating a missed stitch.
(2) If you ignore this eventually your blades will not cut. This will cause the fabric to go past the blade and into the looper.
(3) The upper looper will move up and penetrate the material causing the looper to move out of position and hit the lower looper.
(4) This will cause one or both loopers to break.
to avoid this have your blades sharpened or replaced at the first signs of missed stitches after replacing the needle.
